Max Starr has a weakness for redheads.
So when he meets Maxine Andrews, an exciting redhead with freckles in just the right places, he can't resist making a play for her. She's looking for a Private Investigator, so he bluffs his way into taking her case in hopes of winning her heart.
Max tries to look competent when Maxine's "little white lie" lands him deeper and deeper into a quagmire of crime lords, Chinese spies, and ruthless FBI agents. He's beaten up, shot, and accused of murder. But when he factors in a kiss by Maxine he figures "I'm doing not real bad."
